(FIRST U. S. EDITION, very light shelfwear at spines, two corners lightly bumped).

Though a third (and final) volume appeared (in 1933) in the English (Cassell) edition, the American (Doran) edition was terminated with the second volume in 1927, published in a slightly smaller size binding with gilt-lettering and decoration of a scarab in gilt at the top board. The 257 illustrations on a total of 167 plates are from photographs by Harry Burton of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Volume II is inscribed (in ink) at the half-title : "To Mr. Richard Moon / With every kind thought & wish / Howard Carter, 1927." Inscribed presentation copies are extremely rare and seldom come on to the market!
